東京、渋谷に計画された、路面店の内外装である。ＥＵから新品、アンティーク等の商品を買い付けてくるため、内装のイメージは中世ヨーロッパのデザインをアレンジすることを話し合った。そこで、モチーフとして伝統的である唐草模様を選び、現代の技術で再表現することを決めた。方法としては、連続的に変化した唐草模様にカットされた3ｍｍ合板を重ね合わせ、徐々に色も変化させながら、ドアのフレーム、テーブルを制作した。そうして出来上がったイメージは、本来、模様が持っている対称性を守りながらも躍動感ある変化が加えられ、現代的な印象を獲得できた。
This shop interior/exterior, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, was designed for an owner whose business juxtaposes contemporary products with European antiques, a pairing that naturally inspired a modern reinterpretation of traditional Western design motifs. The doorframe and tables each were created by cutting and laminating together 3mm thick Veneer boards in progressively different colors and curvatures in an organic pattern reminiscent of medieval furniture. The resulting pieces have both the symmetry and depth of traditional construction and an edginess and simplicity that is distinctly modern.
